So I've been needing to pull the heads from my Baja Bug for about a week because I've got a stuck valve in one of my cylinders. I spent a few days earlier this week after work and class getting some parts stripped off the engine so I could pull it. I did my first successful engine pull last night and I'm quite proud! Admittedly it was an easy pull because it's a Bug and there are only four bolts that must be disconnected for removal. It all went very smoothly and this afternoon when I get home from work I'm going to start stripping the engine down more to get the heads off and inspected. Wish me luck! I hope I can get it all back together properly!

Performance parts?

No performance parts yet, on a tight budget! Just need to get the valves fixed and my cylinder too if it's messed up. While the engine is out I might throw a better clutch in for the hell of it.

Didn't take pics unfortunately. Cause it was my first time I had to focus all my attention on the engine and what goes where. Every wire is extremely well labeled so it should piece back together easily!

That was my mistake when I tore apart my bus. Then again half the wires weren't connected in the first place

Haha ya I made sure every wire is well labeled. I might have even gone over the top with labeling but I'll err on the side of caution! I marked connections with colored tape so it should be easy to get back in working order.

I seem to remember my engine only has three bolts because one broke...orrrr maybe I'm confusing it for my back bumper..or maybe both... I'm not sure, both the back bumper and the engine in a beetle have 4 bolts, lol

Yep it's only 4 bolts that connect to the bell housing! I spent all yesterday researching exactly how to get the engine out because I was nervous, but it was far easier than I expected. It was my first time doing it and I finished in about an hour. Not too shabby if you ask me!

I wish I did that. I have electrical problems like mad since I replaced the clutch on the bus.... battery keeps draining, no idea why

Do you think your generator could have crapped out?

Doesn't have one. And I replaced the alt and the voltage regulator

Not to bad at all, alot easier without the entire body there seeing as I can see yours doesn't have it, on my 65', we had to lift the car up and slide the engine under...and our jack at the time didn't go nearly high enough, soo, bit of a headache. What size is the motor? Mine never had one so never experienced taking one out, did shove a heavily cammed dual port 1641 in it though.

Ya the Baja is really easy to slide the motor out because of there being no rear bumper. I popped the engine guard off and that was it! I've got the 1600 in there right now. Hoping to get some better heads and cams in the future!

Nice, I'm hoping to eveennttually build my 350Z into a drift orrr auto X car, then build the beetle into a dragster..bigger motor, turbo possibly, lol, for now its my winter car though, doesn't even have dual carbs on it (but it needs them with the cam it has, but carbs are expensiveee)

Looks like you could have done that job without pulling the motor.

Maybe could have, but this was a great learning experience and it was fun tearing the engine out of there! I got the head pulled just a bit ago and I'll be doing a short write up about it tomorrow.
